KIT POP - MAKE IT LOUD!

‘Make it loud’ is the latest mix cd installment on Paper Chain from Perth dj/producer Kit Pop. Off the back of his mixtape ‘Pill bits and biters’ released in 2007 which gained him recognition as one of Australias top mixtape producers, this time around he approaches the treatment in another way. Rather then creating cross genre mixes and re-works he has given us a straight up mix of how he does things live, just straight up party starting music.

Recorded in winter season of 2008 this captures what Kit Pop was playing out at the time and just a taste of what his live sets are all about, ranging from youtube clip samples to party music of now and throw back styles from back then. When asked about reflecting on the mix Mr. Pop mentioned fast paced speed of the industry these days. “ The mix is kind of old now, I mean when you look at how rapid this style of music comes out, its almost like its fresh one week and old as fuck the next, which is kind of cool about it but at the same time there is so much mediocre shit amongst the good material.” So with this in mind how did you choose the tracks you used? “They are tracks I think would last a little longer then the rest through time and still sound fresh till now, but more about the producers out there pushing the boundaries in themselves, but they are tracks i still play now so i’m pretty happy i was allowed to use them, its just a cd that captures what I was bouncing then and hopefully is still relevant now.” The only Kit Pop re-work on the album is his dub version of Get em’ high (track 22)

So with a little insight from the producer of the record, we all know that everyone is always looking at the next person and wondering what he or she will come up with next. This mix cd is nothing deeper then what it is, just straight up fun, with people out there trying to put tags on you and fling you in a box, Kit Pop has once again left that as a hard task for people to do. The complex structure of the mix, flowing in and out of many styles and varied ways of mixing, this cd will have enough to get anyone up and moving whether you know the tunes already or a rookie to the game. So what is next from Kit Pop? “Working on an album and kind of finding the time to do that, it won‘t be anything like my mix cds, i find myself in the studio steering towards the trip/psyche hop style because that is where it all started for me” hopefully we will expect more new material from this guy in the near future.
